Not so sunny Spain...

SUN, sea, sand, sangria... the first things I thought of when I found out that I would be living in Spain this year, even in Vigo. But apparently not!! As it turns out, the weather is more like this...

than this...

Wikipedia definition: Vigo´s climate is oceanic, commonly seen in the Pacific region of North America. Substantial rainfall throughout the year prevents it from being classified as a Mediterranean climate.

So when I woke up for work one day this week and left the appartment when it was still dark, I made a major rookie error. Having no internet at home so unable to check the weather, I didn´t realise that torrential rain had been forecast for the day. Needless to say, an entirely inappropriate outfit was chosen...

For the entire day, I trooped around freezing cold and with soaking wet feet. My new ballet pumps were ruined, and I might as well have been walking around barefoot.
But it has to be said, the citizens of Vigo were surprisingly helpful in my hours of need. The person I private tutor offered me some wellies and a raincoat (I definitely wish that I had accepted!) and when my umbrella blew inside out and broke, a hunky Spaniard in the street gave me his. So on a more positive note, maybe chivalry isn´t dead afterall?!

If there is one thing you take from this blog, let it be this: when you live on the Atlantic Coast, ALWAYS check the weather forecast before you go out, and NEVER wear beige trousers...
